Alumni Return For Bede's Family Fun Day

Sunday 25 June saw some of Bede’s most esteemed cricketers return to the school to play a T20 match against the Headmaster’s XI.

The match offered alumni a fantastic opportunity to get together and reminisce about the times they had playing cricket together at Bede’s.

A significant crowd watched on, bolstered by many former Bede’s students, cheering as Callum Jackson and Daniel Wells got the Alumni XI off to a flying start.

Jackson was particularly merciless on the bowling, striking 4s and 6s all over the Old Waye ground – several of them landing in the Headmaster’s garden!

Other batsmen, including Callum Guest and Raynaldo Estwick, chipped in with some runs to assist the Alumni side in posting a daunting 202.

The highlight of the bowling had to be the moment when Mr Peter Goodyer, Bede’s Headmaster, dispatched Theo Dowse for 0 with a superb caught and bowled.

The Headmaster’s XI, made up of teachers and three current Bede’s pupils, were never really in the game, but they still scored a respectable 170 in reply; not bad considering the Alumni XI featured a great many professional cricketers!

To finish the family fun day, a fantastic hog roast and several cold beers were then enjoyed by all – a process that I am sure will be repeated next year when the Headmaster’s XI returns, seeking revenge…
