Alumni: Jamie Gordon Breaks World Record

Former Bede's Senior School pupil Jamie Gordon (Deis, 2006-2011) and his friend Alex have set a World Record for rowing across the Atlantic.

They departed Gran Canaria on Tuesday 29 January and reached Barbados at 11pm local time yesterday. Overall they covered approximately 4,800 km (2,602 nautical miles), equating to one million strokes.

The Hyperion Atlantic Challenge involves a sleep pattern of 2 hours on and 2 hours off, 24 hours a day; rowing at night; maintaining and looking after the boat ‘Storm’; and keeping morale high throughout long periods solo rowing.

Jamie and Alex have raised an incredible £39,370 for charity so far.
