At Bede's we believe that the personal, emotional and social development of every child plays a significant part in their ability to achieve.

Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education is at the heart of our teaching.

Our aim is to achieve the five outcomes for our pupils set out in Every Child Matters:

  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well-being

We are committed to empowering the children to realise these outcomes, equipping them with the skills they need to make informed choices at Bede's, in their future schools and in adulthood, thus assisting them to become the best human being that they can.

PSHCE is part of all areas of school life and is also delivered in timetabled lessons with form teachers; these members of staff are closest to the children and therefore are best placed to facilitate discussion in a safe and friendly environment.

The atmosphere we cultivate at Bede's Prep School is one where every pupil can share their ideas and challenge those of others with confidence and respect.

It is important that when pupils look around they see a school community that models and values all views, cultures and ages while celebrating the uniqueness of each individual.

The PSHCE curriculum at Bede's Prep School has been crafted to facilitate this, and to nurture pupils, ensuring that when they leave Bede's they are happy, healthy, confident, thoughtful, caring, respectful, creative and ambitious.

I relish working with children at the crucial stage when so many new ideas start popping and fizzing around the classroom. It's an extremely demanding but entirely rewarding way to spend my days!

Rachel Barrett, Reception Class Teacher

I believe in developing every aspect of a young person and in helping each individual to develop passions which are personal to them.

I believe our students leave the Prep school with a solid foundation in geography which not only enhances their chances of future success in examinations but equips them for life beyond the school gates.

Adam Brewer, Head of Geography, Eagle Section Leader, Teacher of History and Year 7 Personal Tutor

My passion for learning dates from my own primary school teacher! Since that point I have never stopped wanting to learn and to teach, having done so everywhere from Kent to Japan.

Simon Gisby, Teacher of Science and Physical Education and Year 5 Form Teacher

I love the push to keep learning, to keep discovering new questions and to help students discover their own questions.
