The Tennis Academy at Bede's Prep School has helped to create dozens of county and regional champions over a diverse range of year groups.

Players who are selected to join our Elite Tennis Academy have their own personal programme set to their age and capability, and the programme includes individual coaching, squad squaching, tennis specific fitness training and tailored diets based on the strict guidelines from The Lawn Tennis Association.

Where children receive coaching outside school, we work with those coaches so that our programme compliments what they are doing.

Our top ten ranked players in the school attend two coaching groups (maximum of five pupils per coach) each week. Their individual lesson is placed within their school day along with a fitness session during one lunchtime period.

Some elite players also have the opportunity to play in higher age-group squads - this invitation will be decided whilst creating each individual player's personal programme.

Equally, some elite players have the opportunity to play with the Senior elite players on a weekly basis at Bede's Senior School. For our exceptional players, they will be invited to train at Virgin Active Indoor Academy, Falmer, with the best players in Sussex.

The Bede's Tennis Academy is also linked with Eastbourne Sports Park, an LTA Satellite Centre for Excellence. Additional tennis squads (depending on standard) are offered after school hours, with transport provided.

Elsewhere, every year group has a one-hour group coaching lesson each week, from Nursery to Year 8. All aspects of the game - ground strokes, the serve, volley, tactics and match play - are taught depending on age and ability.

Mini 'elite' squads are free to all players selected, providing they are part of the Bede's coaching programme, Early Morning Group Tennis takes place two mornings per week at 7.30am and The 'Serve' Hour takes place every Friday 7.30am - 8.30am and any child can join.

During separately bookable Individual Coaching sessions (30 minute lessons), each player is individually assessed and a programme put in place, whether it be for the child who wants to win Wimbledon or the child who wants to improve to the best of their ability.

We also run Internal Competitions, with a tennis ladder which operates all year round. This is a great way to practise playing tennis competitively!

When it comes to fixtures and matches, we aim to give each child at least two matches against other clubs per term, and during the Summer Term our teams play a great many matches and tournaments.

We also run a Holiday Coaching Course, which sees pupils engaged in five days of intensive coaching and play courses are also organised each holiday.

Then, for the best and most enthusiastic tennis players, seven days at the International Training Centre in La Manga in Southern Spain is also organised annually.
