Bede's Prep School cricketers made up a large part of the local 'Skillz Skorpionz' cricket team which debuted at the Sussex CCC/Sport Arabia Cricket Festival at Ardingly College from the 12-16 August.

The 'Scorpionz squad included five U11 players, and for many of them this was the first time staying away from home.

Elsewhere the side contained 6 Bede's Prep players who had been part of the school's U13 side, narrowly beaten in the semi-finals of the Sussex County Cup in June.

Ryan Hoadley and Ryan Welch shared the Skorpionz captaincy throughout the festival and were well supported by Tom Welch, Harry Ring, the leading Skorpionz run scorer with 135, and Harry Wootten, who took some impressive catches during the week.

The team's coach, Tim van Noort, said of the boys' performance, "With a healthy balance of state and independent school cricketers, our main focus was ensuring we gelled as a team from the word go.

"Unfortunately, we faced some stiff competition, and were squeezed out of the top-spots by Lancashire and Buckinghamshire."
