Art and Design: Junior Enterprise Challenge
On Monday 30 September, six members of Year 4 participated in the 'Junior Enterprise Challenge', organised by the Eastbourne Education Business Partnership, with the aim of raising awareness of business and marketing, as well as to help develop financial and problem-solving skills.
Katie Fenton, Milly Trenaman, Freddie Frame, Josh Swanepoel, Matilda Collins and Elvis Abraham were asked, along with the other teams, to help design and produce Eastbourne-themed toiletries to go into hotels in the area.
The group worked superbly together, gaining praise for their teamwork from the business mentors there. Particularly evident was Katie's excellent leadership of the team, keeping everyone focused and working together.
The judges also commended the originality and creativity of the ideas, from the bold seagull as the logo to the strong strapline 'A lot of luxury in a little sachet'.
Representatives from The Grand and The Hydro hotels were there and many of the ideas the children came up with on the day could well be used within businesses locally; this was more than an academic exercise!
The Mayor of Eastbourne judged the challenge - and though the children did not come away with a prize this time, they were highly commended by the judges.
The children worked very hard (there was hardly time for lunch!) but enjoyed the morning - and learnt a lot from it.
