ICT: Year 4 Pupils Get Programming

Using the "BigTrak" programmable robots (which many adults will remember fondly from their childhood), Year 4 have been learning about robotic control and programming in their ICT lessons.

The children have been creating instruction sequences for the robots to follow and have started to see how robots can be made to interact with their environment. This will lead on to a basic understanding of artificial intelligence.

Pupils have also learnt to program robots to draw geometric shapes such as pentagons and hexagons on paper using built-in pens and worked together in teams to program four BigTraks to move in sequence, creating a "Robotic Red Arrows" display team!

This knowledge of robotics, artificial intelligence and programming come together to form a firm grounding in a key area of Computer Science for the children.
