Reception: A Medley of Maths and Mermaids

In Reception this week, the focus text has been 'The Singing Mermaid' by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks.

After listening to and talking about the story, the children have enjoyed a variety of activities relating to it.

One of the favourites was building a safe house for the mermaid out of large wooden bricks. The house had to have an entry and an exit and the children had some great ideas including a pipe attached to the roof, ready to suck up Sam Sly!

There were some fantastic pieces of writing which re-told the story and the children also spent time thinking about how the mermaid might have felt.

In Maths, meanwhile, the children enjoyed ordering the numbered mermaids.  Many under the sea collages were produced as well as mermaid and sea creature masks!
