Cricket: U13 Girls Claim Bronze in Sussex County Cup

The Bede's Girls' U13 Cricket Team successfully finished in third place in the County rounds of the Lady Taverners Indoor Competition last week.

With 27 schools having entered and Bede's having won all their qualifying matches, we were very happy to have reached the semi-final stage on March 9th at Oathall.

A resounding victory over Seaford (Bede's 109 runs and Seaford 50 runs) secured a place on Finals Day at The County Ground, Hove, which was a fantastic experience for all of the girls.

Our first match provided a narrow and exciting win over Sir Robert Woodard (86 runs plays 81), who were in joint first place until our run rate moved them into second. This alone showed how far the girls have progressed!

With a team made up of only 2 Year 8 pupils, Year 7s, Year 6s and even one Year 5 girl in the form of Matilda Collins, ours was the youngest squad of all the schools by far!

Captain Daisy Bean was comfortably the best bowler on show in the finals, and she led the team well throughout the competition. Her last over in the first match saw us winning the game with 3 wickets for 2 runs under immense pressure - she did absolutely brilliantly.

All-round batting and bowling performances from Elise Sutherland, Mimi Cisotti and Chase Sutherland were important throughout, and other vital contributions came from Ellie Sarro, Matilda Collins and Sadie Collett.

A special mention must also go to Lilianna Jones, who kept wicket brilliantly on many different and difficult surfaces.

The girls should be very proud of their position, especially as they reached the County finals with such a young team.

Well done to all - there are exciting times ahead!
