Religious Studies: Year 4's India Topic Comes To Life
Year 4 made a colourful arrival into school last Monday, dressed in their beautiful Indian costumes, supporting this term’s topic of India.
Many of the children had immersed themselves in Indian recipes over the weekend and brought in the wonderful fruits of their labours. The aromatic spice smells filled the Year 4 classrooms as we enjoyed the delicious snacks that the children had made. We all left enough room to enjoy the lovely Indian lunch provided by the Bede’s Prep catering team.
The pupils had a chance to draw Rangoli patterns using rotational symmetry. There is a close link between maths and art in India. Rangoli is also a form of folk art being used to decorate the floors of homes and shrines using coloured chalks.
The children also practised writing in hindi, writing the phrase, ‘My name is' and their name in hindi. Everyone was engrossed in this activity and enjoyed the relaxing Indian music playing in the background.
A wonderful day was had by all.
