English: Matilda Wins Wicked Writers Award

On Friday, 24 June three of our very talented Year 6 writers attended the final of the National Wicked Young Writers’ Competition at the Apollo Theatre in London.

Matilda Collins, Milly Gibson and Jake Menzies were three of just 100 children selected from many thousands of participants in the prestigious writing competition.

Gabby Roslin compered the event and the acclaimed children’s author, Cressida Cresswell, presented the prizes.

Cast members from the spectacular musical Wicked recited the winning pieces; there were also performances from the musical and a writing workshop with a popular children’s poet.

To our surprise and delight, Matilda Collins was announced as the winner of the 8-10 year old category with her entry, ‘Night Step’. Judges described her piece as sensitive, thought-provoking and moving.

Matilda was justly rewarded for her efforts with a certificate signed by Michael Morpurgo and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, the Wicked Young Writer Awards Anthology, a magical experience to see Wicked in performance with her friends and family, and £50 book token to spend, as well as £100 worth of books for our school library.

Many, many congratulations, Matilda.
