Spray Sailing: Braving The English Channel

Bede’s Prep School’s ever-popular Spray Sailing Club has seen a fresh crop of would-be mariners learning the ropes, reading the wind and venturing out onto the English Channel.

Open to all pupils from Years 4-8, the children can visit Spray Watersports on a weekly basis.

After a safety briefing, pupils begin learning the ropes straight away; how to steer, how to set and trim sails, tack, and gybe.

It’s always exhilarating, offering the children a great way to exercise, and it helps them develop coordination and team work skills too.

All sailing at Bede’s starts on the Princess Park lake. Then, as pupils progress, our sailors move to sailing on the sea, with pupils also encouraged to work towards their RYA sailing qualifications.

Those interested in giving it a try need just let me know – especially as, believe it or not, Spray Sailing Club continues right through the winter months!
