Football: U10s Win Bede's Challenge Shield
Bede's Year 5 boys had a fantastic day at the Bede's U10 Football Tournament, hosted at the Senior School. Every member of Year 5 had the chance to represent the school as they formed three football teams.
They faced schools such as Holmewood house, Yardley Court, Great Ballard, St Christopher’s and Cumnor House. All teams played well and displayed great sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the tournament.
Bede’s B and C teams faced each other in the semi-final of the Plate and the B Team went through to face Great Ballard where they were eventually beaten after a great effort in the final.
The A Team met Yardley Court School in the semi-final and were winning 1-0 with a minute to go when disaster struck and a penalty was awarded.
Despite the valiant efforts of our keeper, the Yardley Court Team equalised taking the match to extra-time. At extra-time the scores were still level, this led to a penalty shoot-out and the A Team narrowly missed going through despite some great saves from our keeper.
It was a great afternoon and the boys recollected their experience with a creative piece of writing they submitted in the form of a newspaper article.
Charlie Sweeting, Toby Leonard, Lewy Lawrence and Joseph Leonard received a special mention and all boys were awarded an FA pen in assembly for their journalistic efforts. A truly wonderful afternoon where the fusion of football, literacy, inclusion, and teamwork were captured by all who took part.
