Gifted and Talented: Year 6 Curriculum Enhancement Day
On Thursday 19 January, a group of our most talented students in Year 6 were joined by children from several local primary schools for a day of challenging and enthralling activities across a range of subjects.
Having been put into three, mixed groups, the children embarked on tackling a variety of fascinating activities.
Mrs Rich, our Head of Science, demonstrated a variety of concepts themed around the 'Power of Lemons’. Airborne bubbles of Methane were also ignited to huge amusement.
Mr Fasciolo-Barnes, Head of Maths, set some incredibly interesting and demanding challenges that needed real thought and perseverance! He was incredibly impressed with the answers that were calculated collectively in small teams.
The Modern Foreign Languages team put the students through their paces, teaching expressions in Russian, Japanese and Latin. Madame Galletly, Madame Allirot and Mr Gisby were all incredibly impressed with how quickly the children picked up the languages taught.
An introduction to Shakespeare and Macbeth was then given by Mrs Brundle, Head of English and Drama.
This was quickly followed by a performance of a scene involving the three witches where the children learned how to create an atmosphere by making their own eerie, sound effects.
Mrs Brundle was full of praise with everyone’s acting ability!
The day was incredibly engaging and enjoyable for all involved and seemed to be a resounding success both for pupils and teachers.
