Cricket @ U13 Lady Taverners Area Cup

Bede’s girls played superbly to win the Lady Taverners Indoor U13 County Championship 2017. They bowled accurately, batted positively, and ran brilliantly. Their fielding was also good and the girls made some great catches (16 in total) and created 7 Run Outs.

Firstly, the girls beat Downlands by 54 runs. Izzy and Matilda both scored 15 and had to be retired. Milly T also batted convincingly and scored runs at the end of the innings, Kirstin scored 11, and Bede’s ultimately scored 102 for 4 against Downlands 48 all-out.

Next, Bede’s played Tanbridge and scored 96. Izzie and Matilda started well, Milly T chipped in with some runs, and Kirstin and Amelia both scored well. The girls bowled Tanbridge out for 69, and Izzy took 2 wickets. Maddy Smith and Kayla also both bowled well and took wickets, and Matilda’s Run Outs (x2) were excellent, all of which helped ensure the win by 27 runs.

Bede’s then played Sir Robert Woodard Academy and batted first. Our opening batters faced a good bowling attack but Milly T, Amelie and Kirstin batted positively and Bede’s scored 68. Izzy opened the bowling and took 3-1 in the first over, with Amelie Barker taking a superb catch at Mid On. Kayla followed taking 2-1 in the second over, and Maddy Smith bowled very well with 3-3. Amelie, Kirstin, Kayla, Matilda and Izzy caught superbly, with Tanbridge being bowled out for 29 in 5 overs and Bede’s winning by 39 runs.

The last game was against Warden Park. Bede’s batted first and scored 98. Izzy and Matilda were Retired on 15 and 16. Milly T was also Retired. Amelia, Maddy and Grace all chipped in, and Izzy and Matilda were re-introduced and both batted superbly. Izzy scored 18, and Matilda’s 25 was superb – both girls ran very well between the wickets.

Izzy then opened the bowling and took a wicket immediately. This and Matilda’s Run Out in the first over reduced Warden Park to 2-3.

Kayla then bowled superbly to take another wicket, with Izzy's catch deserving a special mention. Maddy’s Run Out saw Warden Park reduced to 4-6, and then Maddy and Matilda both took wickets in the following overs. Amelie and Grace also took wickets, and Bede’s ultimately bowled Warden Park out for 28 and won by 70 runs.

As a result of their superb run, the girls are now Sussex Champions and will now compete in the Regional South East Finals in May.

Swimming versus Moira House Girls’ School

An exciting end to the spring term saw Bede’s Prep School’s U8, U9, U10 and U11 swimmers competing in a fantastic gala against Moira House.

The children showed their improvement in both technique and speed with just two points between the schools overall (Bede’s 129 points, Moira House – 131).

1st places were achieved by Olivia Driver, Alisha Duignan, Louis Jones, Ella Belk, James Lloyd and Amelia Williams in their individual events.

James Lloyd and Albert Sellens not only swam for their own team but also helped the Year 5 relays teams to achieve 1st places in both the Medley and Freestyle Relays.

The swimming in the relay events showed a great example of the teamwork, which has been practised within lessons and squad sessions. This resulted in Bede’s taking first and second in all relays.

Congratulations in particular to the U9 team who won all of their Individual events and Relays, but well done to everyone who swam!
