Tennis: U8s-U13s Win County Championship 'Straight Flush'

This term so far has seen a wonderful display of tennis from the Bede’s tennis players, our youngest competitors of just 6 years old through to our seasoned 13 year old tournament players.

The Mini Tennis players from Year 2, 3 and 4 started the tennis season with the annual U8 Sussex Schools Championships in March, hosted by Bede’s Senior School. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams triumphed to take home the prestigious County Champion Trophies.

The boys’ team consisting of Aldin, Finley, James and Archie played a fantastic final to win against Our Lady of Sion. The girls, Emily, Alexandra, Serena and Emma played the tightest of finals and managed a magnificent win against Moira House.

In April the U10 County Championships took place. The boys, Reha, Archie, Toby and Max couldn't quite secure a victory against Brighton College in the semi-finals, but played with infectious enthusiasm.  The girls, Emily, Ella, Mishia and Amelia played some incredible tennis and only just lost on points to Moira House in the final.

May saw the County Championships for U9, U11 and U13. On 2 May the Bede's U9 boys, Aldin, James, Archie and Finley fought hard and dug deep but couldn't quite stop Brighton College beating them in the final. In the girls event Moira got their revenge by one point, a close contest for the girls who were very happy reaching the final this year, especially being such a young team.

On 5 May, it was the turn of the U11s. The boy’s team, Charlie, Ollie, Boston and Reha had a superb win, playing some fine tennis to become County Champions with great victories over all of the teams.

The girls, Angel, Imogen, Ella and Emily played very well but lost to the eventual winners in the semi-finals.

On 19 May, the last of the Prep County Championships saw the U13s competing. In the boys’ event Charlie, Maximilian, Tom and Alejandro fought extremely hard to reach the semi-finals; unluckily they lost by one point.

The two girls’ teams however both worked their way from either side of the draw, to the final. A major achievement for the Bede's girls as they played each other to become County Champions – the top eight girls in Sussex all coming from Bede’s!

An excellent start to the summer term, with more exciting events to come ending with our tour down to La Manga!
