Bede's Hosts Qualifying Round of the IAPS Swimming Championships

On Tuesday 5 February, Bede’s Senior School hosted the Qualifying Round of the IAPS Swimming Championships, welcoming over 130 swimmers from eight schools.

Swimmers from Marlborough House, St Christopher’s, Handcross Park, Battle Abbey, Bede’s Prep, Cottesmore, Roedean Moira House and Great Walstead joined for an exciting afternoon of competitive swimming.

Swimmers ranged from U10 to U13 and competed in 42 races! They were joined on poolside by officials and timekeepers from Hailsham Swimming Club, who were impressed by the standard of swimming.

Bede’s had a total of 29 swimmers competing in both Medley and Freestyle Relays as well as numerous individual events. Having spent many hours training to prepare for this event, it was wonderful to see everyone swimming to the very highest standard.

The U12 girls and U13 boys performed well in their freestyle relays securing respective times of 1:13.95 and 1:11.55.

The U10s swam well in their individual events with Luca, Jonty, Garth and Serena all achieving good results.

Our backstroke swimmers have worked hard perfecting their tumble turns, which was clear to see in their events. Aldin, Amelia, Olivia and Alex all swam very well securing personal best times.

Louis swam an incredible time of 45.24s in the U13 50m Breaststroke, showing amazing speed and technique. Results from the other breaststroke swimmers were equally impressive, with Finley and Romilly achieving 53.00s and 52.27s respectively in the U11 age group.

All the times from the Qualifying Round will now be ranked across the country, with the top 20 swimmers in each age group and stroke competing in the Finals at the London Aquatic Centre on 8 June. We hope to see as many of our swimmers there as possible!
