Bede's provides an all-round education which extends far beyond the classroom.
This means that the school is, and always has been, inextricably linked with the local community.
It is part of our ethos that pupils should be engaged with the real world and that when they leave the school they will make a positive contribution to society. This means that whilst our pupils learn from their interactions with the outside world, the school, in turn, engages with and benefits the local, national and international community in many, varied ways.
The children take part in many Festivals in the local community, such as the Eastbourne Arts Festival and the Eastbourne Shakespeare Festival alongside other local schools. The choirs and orchestra perform alongside Bede's Senior School pupils in our annual Spring Concert in St Andrew's Church, Eastbourne, and this is always a wonderful event.
Another highlight of the year is the community carol service at St. Saviour's Church, Eastbourne, which sees past and present pupils, staff and families fill the church with wonderful music and traditional readings.
At Christmas pupils also sing in two local elderly people's homes, which is a source of delight for the residents who enrich our imaginations with their reminiscences about their own school days.
The pupils also love to welcome the local community into our evensong services in the school chapel.
Harvest time presents an opportunity for us to bring something to school to share with those who live close. A local pastor visits school assemblies to accept the gifts and then to deliver them, on the children's behalf, to those in need.
Other charities are supported in many ways by the school. For example, parents and friends support our links with Macmillan Cancer Care when we join in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning event.
