Tom, Aged 11

The things I am known for are Physics and Zoology.

My grandfather was part of the Royal Institute, so you might say that I have Science in my blood. I'm sad that I never had the chance to meet him, but I like the idea that I'm carrying on a tradition. I hope that he would be proud of me.

I have always been fascinated by Science and the teaching here has really fuelled my interest. I love handling the animals and taking part in the experiments Mr Childers plans for us. But it was my Form Tutor who made me really feel like I belonged when I arrived. She was so nice and friendly. As soon as I met her I thought, "This is the school for me!"

The musical side of the school is very impressive. I'm a chorister, and the range and quality of our choirs is exceptional. The Spring Concert, for example, was quite amazing. We sang an hour-long Latin piece, which was very difficult but we all really enjoyed it.

I am only in Year 6 at the moment but my goal is to achieve an Academic Scholarship to a top Senior School and I feel like I'm being prepared very well for that.

It's a lovely school, and I really enjoy the feeling that I am learning all the time. Every day I find out about new things and am challenged in different ways.

I don't think that anything in life could be more important.

This interview was conducted in the Summer of 2013. Tom is now in Year 8 and continues to thrive in Science and at school generally.
