Cricket at Bede's Prep
Cricket at Bede’s is about giving all children the opportunity to play, develop and improve to become the very best they can be.
Introduction to basic cricketing skills starts at Reception level and from Year 1 onwards more focus is placed on teaching the key skills in a fun and engaging environment to and encouraging participation at all levels.
The Prep senior squad trains once a week from September onwards and cricket also runs in activity time to allow for technical developments throughout the off-season. We run small group and individual sessions for the most talented who are seeking elite development throughout the autumn and spring terms, and there are opportunities every week for high level technical coaching within small groups and on an individual basis.
The fruits of these labours are that Bede’s Prep School has had unparalleled success in recent years on the cricket field. Winning the JET Cup and last year reaching finals again, as well as, for the first time, becoming semi-finalists in the prestigious Bunbury Trophy, we also produced six boys and four girls who played at County level.
We have won the County U13 competition for the last 3 years and U12’s for the last two as well as two invitation U11 Colts tournaments.
The girls have also had success as finalists in U13 Lords Taverners County competition, and these achievements have attracted talented cricketers to the Prep who have followed on to the Senior School in order to fulfil their ambitions.
I am personally trained to ECB level 3 and our growing and successful programme is ably assisted by my husband Neil Lenham, Bede’s professional cricket coach (ex-Sussex CCC) who coaches at both Bede's Senior and Prep Schools.
We are both supported by Alan Wells (ex-Sussex, Kent and England), Bede’s Director of Cricket, who ensures that there is continuity across the Trust and that pupils have a clear development pathway.
While always played with fun in mind, Cricket is taken extremely seriously at the School and both boys and girls’ progression and playing opportunities are monitored carefully at a development level (where all children are encouraged to play and enjoy the sport) as well as at the higher level where individuals are supported in striving for elite performance levels and County honours.
“ I am motivated not only by an infectious love of sport but also by a desire to see as many children as possible physically and mentally empowered. ”
