Bede’s believes that swimming as an essential life skill which should be fun, enjoyable and which lead to many opportunities throughout life.
We adhere to the vision of the Amateur Swimming Association and ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate in high quality school swimming lessons, taught in a safe environment.
We follow the ASA Learn to Swim pathway, which assists and supports the delivery of swimming lessons, via a programme which includes technique and skill development of all four swimming strokes plus the introduction and improvement in other aspects of swimming such as diving, water skills and lifesaving.
All Bede’s children from Nursery upwards enjoy class swimming. Our Nursery children have the opportunity to swim twice a week with sessions focussed on enabling the children to enjoy their time in the pool, develop their confidence and have fun.
Children in Reception through to Year 4 have weekly Class Swimming with Years 5–8 swimming on a fortnightly timetable; in addition to this Curricula Swimming there are five swimming squad training sessions and Swimming Activities which include kayaking and water polo.
Finally, the school Swimming Squads compete in many galas against other local schools year round, from Year 3 upwards.
“ The positive, fun, professional ethos we foster at Bede's is reflected by the large numbers of pupils that regularly attend the Option Swim, Junior Activity and Swim Squads. ”
