The oldest building on the Bede's campus, the Manor House contains the School Reception, Headmaster's Office, Marketing and Admissions departments and the Main School Offices.
The Salon, the school's principle meeting room, is also situated in the Manor House, connected both to the Old Dining Room, via a hidden, oak-panelled doorway.
Take a Virtual Tour of The Salon:
Part of the Music department is housed in the eaves of the Manor House in rooms which, until 2007, were home to the boarders of Crossways House. Now completely unrecognisable, these upper-level rooms are afforded some stunning views over The Park and back onto the Finance department, itself situated above the new Dining Rooms.
The School Kitchens had a complete refurbishment in 2012, with a mixture of the Old and New Dining Rooms being further enhanced with the addition of an alfresco dining area.
Also in 2012, new Finance and Human Resources Offices were created by the Bede's Estates team to provide a more user friendly and workable space for support staff.
In 2013, the Old Dining Room enjoyed a complete makeover which was achieved during term time. New ceilings were installed, the wooden floors and panelling were refurbished by skilled tradesmen and the lights were replaced with modern lighting system that is remote controlled and can be altered to match a range of different moods.
Take a Virtual Tour of the Dining Rooms:
The Manor House's heating system was replaced in 2014 and a modern, energy efficient system installed which included fitting all-new pipework and radiators. To keep the Edwardian aesthetic, new cast iron radiators were purchased to blend in with the style of the building.
The existing boilers were replaced with a Biomass System, which provides an efficient, environmentally friendly and cost effective way of heating the school.
In the Summer of 2014 the east elevation roof (over The Salon) and south-facing roof (above the Admissions department) were replaced. While the scaffolding was erected, we took the opportunity to repair a number of windows, guttering, facia boards and soffits, and repainted all the woodwork.
Most recently, the west elevation was repaired including the installation of a new roof and new windows.
