Gifted and Talented Programme
Pupils at Bede's who are academically exceptional are given a number of supra-curricular opportunities which are unashamedly elitist.
In the First Year, scholars and other highly capable pupils enjoy evening sessions across all subjects.
In these twilight workshops, teachers are freed from the constraints of a given curriculum and can present pupils with the most inventive, challenging and mind-boggling of encounters.
As they enter the Fifth Form, the most able pupils then join the Curriculum Enrichment Programme.
Created and facilitated by the inimitable Mr Stoneman, the focus of this scheme is placed squarely on developing young minds far beyond what is normally thought possible in secondary school.
Lastly, in the Sixth Form our Heads of Department are empowered to develop deep and individual specialisms in exceptional pupils and take time to regularly meet with individuals on a one-to-one basis and lay the groundwork for not only the very best University career but the very best life they can.
The outcomes of these meetings may involve facilitating research partnerships with international associates, work experience with some of the great names in modern industry or access to a number of exceptional scientific, cultural and creative facilities across Sussex.
All of this means that, while we resolutely refuse to top-slice our intake, our Gifted and Talented Programme provides the most rigorous education imaginable to the brightest young minds of tomorrow.
“ Children are not made in a factory, and thus they are not all the same. Where one will revel in the study of mathematics another will be happiest with a paintbrush in hand. It is a recognition of this endless variety that underpins all we do. ”
