The Pre-Sixth Form
In September 2009, Bede's launched an exciting new course for overseas pupils: the Pre-Sixth Form Programme.
An intensive one year programme, focussed on improving the spoken and written English of pupils while preparing them for Sixth Form study, the 'Pre-Sixth' has welcomed dozens of pupils from all over the world to Bede's and has enabled them to grow, develop and thrive both in and outside of the classroom.
Those pupils who join the Pre-Sixth follow the same timetable as other pupils at the School, with breaks during the mid-morning and for lunch. They live in the same boarding houses, take part in the same Co-Curricular activities and enjoy all of the same facilities as every other pupil at Bede's.
Pupils on the programme undertake 5 British 'General Certificate of Secondary Education' or 'GCSE' courses - normally taken over the course of two years - during just one year of study. The ultimate goal of this approach is for pupils to achieve outstanding grades in these examinations and finish the programme prepared to move on to a higher level of study in which English is the core language.
In recent years, a majority of Pre-Sixth pupils have achieved the 5 GCSE B grades needed to join our Sixth Form and have gone on to complete their A Levels with us. Many have also joined Universities including the likes of UCL, Manchester University, Warwick University and the world-famous Central St Martin's College of Art.
Those Pre-Sixth pupils who wish to go on to study for A Levels at Bede's (or at a Sixth Form elsewhere) do so in a strong position as a result of their work on the programme; those who return to their home country do so with much improved English skills, internationally respected qualifications and memories which will last a lifetime.
