Bede's

Co-Curricular

‘Co-curricular is extraordinary,’ said a parent. Activities take place three times a week, chosen from a vast range, from the BEden project (creating a sustainable, organic healing garden using recycling and freecycling), making a homebrew in wine-making (sixth formers only) and UK space design.

At Bede's it is our goal to ensure that we educate the whole person, and because of this we give equal importance to Academic, Pastoral and Co-Curricular aspects of life.

This holistic approach to education is not just an add-on. It is our strong belief that learning takes place beyond the confines of the classroom, and with this in mind, we place creativity, service and action at the heart of the student experience.

Bede's students pick from a wide array of over 100 clubs and activities, guided by our fantastic Personal Tutors. These activities are targeted, rigorous and inclusive, and prepare our students to see life as an educational journey.

We do our best to ensure that every student at Bede's is able to pursue their talents via our specialist staff, unbeatable facilities and innovative timetable. Furthermore, we believe in giving back and try to imbue our students with this philosophy.

Through our House Charity system and our ground-breaking Community Links programme, we have Bede's students engaged in providing local residents with lessons in IT, teaching English, Art and Music at local primary schools, working with Gurkhas in Nepal and helping with Rhino conservation in South Africa.

Pupils say that strong community groups which span ages develop in different activity areas, and that trying new things is one of the best things about the school; but those who want something calm and low key are also catered for: in reading for pleasure, pupils sit peacefully in the library with thermoses of tea and coffee and a plate of digestives – no feeling that this is a choice for second class citizens.
