Knit and Natter
Bede’s Knit and Natter Club is part of the School’s Community Links Scheme.
The central idea of the activity is for Bede’s pupils to spend time with members of our local community, taking about their lives, current affairs, cares and worries – all while knitting for a good cause!
Pupils who join the club are of course given comprehensive guidance in how to knit, and are invited to undertake increasingly ambitious projects over time – often in partnership with ‘grown ups.’
Since the start of the Autumn Term of 2016, the group have determined to focus their energies on knitting ‘Twiddlemuffs’ – double thickness hand muffs with bits and bobs attached inside and out.
Designed to provide a stimulation activity for the restless hands of patients suffering from dementia, Bede’s Knit and Natterers are particularly focussed on this project after being inspired by a Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital Dementia Campaign.
“ Supporting young people to develop confidence, skills and strategies, so that they can have equal access to the curriculum, is both rewarding and inspirational. ”
