Photography: Bede's Pupils Win National Awards

On Saturday 20 April Bede's Head of Photography Ema Excell and 7 Photography students visited an exhibition of the students' award-winning work at Eltham College.

The cohort was supported by a number of proud parents and relatives.

The exhibition at the Gerald Moore Gallery comes off the back of the Edexcel Photography competition, which saw Bede's students earning 8 of the 30 places on the shortlist and Lower Fifth pupil Sarah Francis (photo below) winning top prize and becoming the Pearson Photographer of the Year 2013.

Ms Excell said of the trip, "The Exhibition was first class, the Gallery is one year old this week and is a stunning building; you almost feel like you are walking into The Tate Modern."

Each student's work was displayed in a custom-made frame and the lighting of the room gave a professional and atmospheric feel to the whole event.

"Our students behaved in a superb manner and represented the School to the highest standard," said Ms Excell.

"We found out from the organiser that 600 candidates submitted their work for the competition and there were a number of international entries; this was then whittled down to the best 300 which were then sent to the judges."

At the presentation the Bede's students received a goodie bag full of fantastic gifts, and winner Sarah Francis received a £75 voucher.
