Football: Bede's U18 Girls are Runners-Up in 7-A-Side Tournament
On Saturday 27th April Bede's Girls Football Team were invited to Haileybury's inaugural Ladies' Football Tournament.
Captained by Elena South, the team travelled to Hertfordshire with the hope of finishing their season with a day of good football and a final farewell to the girls who will be leaving in the summer for the next stage in their educational journeys.
Bede's played some excellent football, winning their matches vs St Swithuns, Hockerill, and St Clare's, and drawing against Malvern. Sadly, we were defeated by Haileybury, the noble hosts, which denied us the title.
Captain Elena South played fantastically throughout the tournament and her finishing was exceptional. She scored a hatrick in one match and a curling shot into the top right hand corner in the opening match from about 25 yds. Spectacular!
Paula Schaper and Kayleigh also scored and Mia Bungaroo's dexterity and skill was a pleasure to behold as she danced around many a defenders' foot to create space for her exquisite crossing.
Cristina Richards, Abbie Steinegger and Anouska Greenaway worked hard in defence and Maisie Trafford was everywhere, closing the ball down and putting in a few memorable strikes at goal.
It was a marvellous way to spend a Saturday, and nothing could dampen our spirits as we played our last game with our Captain. She was, by far, the player of the tournament, exuding skill, prowess and humility.
