Photography: Bede's Pupils Excel at Edexcel Competition
Last term the exam board Edexcel ran their 2013 Photography competition.
The competition was open to all schools throughout the UK with the intention of inspiring and unearthing talented and budding photographers.
The theme of the competition was 'Regeneration' and the Photography department at Bede's invited any student with a passion for the subject to submit one image into either the junior or senior category.
Miss Excell and Mr Turner were inundated with entries from eager students and were delighted with the range and quality of submissions from both students who take the subject and others who have an interest in photography.
In total, 40 students submitted their work and these were sent to a specialist panel including professional photographers and senior educationalists.
The Judging criteria was a creative approach; consideration of the theme and demonstration of an understanding of formal elements including the use of line, tone colour shape, pattern, texture, form and structure.
Over the Easter break Edexcel contacted Ms Excell to tell her the fantastic news that 35 schools took part in this competition and out of the 30 final entries that had been selected for exhibition at the Gerald Moore Gallery in London, 8 of the these were from Bede's students.
The leader of Edexcel sent a personal message to Miss Excell expressing her pleasure at the quality and range of work that was submitted by our students and commented that they were astounded by the high number of finalist from our School.
Ms Excell would like to congratulate everyone for taking part in the competition and for showing such talent and passion.
All entrants showed such diverse ways of thinking how Photography can be interpreted within the Arts and all should feel proud of what they have achieved.
