Tennis: U15 Boys and Girls Retain Sussex Shield

Sussex Shield

Bede's Boys and Girls U15 won the Sussex Shield yesterday in a competition for all Sussex schools.

Throughout the afternoon there was excellent tennis playing from all 3 of the Bede's teams (12 pairs of girls all of different ability and experience ready to play some doubles). This was the first year that Bede's have entered 3 teams into the Sussex Shield competition and it was very impressive to see all of the girls motivated and enthusiastic about playing in the tournament.

A special mention to Team Bede's C, consisting of Alice Knapp, Amy Doidge, Fleur Reynolds and Ros Manning for extraordinary commitment throughout the event. Also the play by the Bede's B Team showed a vast improvement in their serving and groundstrokes allowing them to win some good games in blustery conditions.

The Boys also regained their title on Tuesday 11, beating Ardingly College in the final.

Bede's Director of Tennis and ex-British international player Julie Salmon said of the girls' achievements, "I am most excited to win both trophies, but am extremely delighted that the girls have won this incredible trophy and perhaps the most splendid trophy around."

The boys team remain unbeaten in Sussex competitions this year.
