Athletics: Bede’s Alumnus selected to represent Great Britain at Moscow World Championships
Bede's alumnus Sebastian Roger from Eastbourne was selected yesterday for the Senior Great British Athletics Squad to compete at the Word Championships in Moscow in August.
Sebastian (to the right in the photograph) was a member of Knights House and is a young and talented athlete who boasts many skills on and off the track. He has enjoyed a stellar year, having represented Great Britain in the Decathlon after his debut at the Junior World Championships in Canada.
Previously part of both the Junior 4x400 relay teams in heats and the 2010 Junior World Championship final, where Seb helped Team GB earn a bronze medal, he also achieved the world Junior qualifying mark for the Decathlon.
In 2012 Seb changed events and began to concentrate on running the 400m hurdles. In his first season, Seb became the UK U23 National Champion and Inter-County Senior Champion, and he is currently ranked 2nd in the country at U23 level.
Bede's Director of Sport Andrew Waterhouse said of Seb's accomplishment, "This may be the biggest achievement by a Bede's student on the international front since Dilly Newton was selected for GB Hockey in 2011."
