House Cup: Dorms Wins House Rugby Competition

Dorms House Prefect and Bede's 1st XV Rugby Captain Josh Novell gives his account of the Inter-House Rugby Tournament.

We started off our campaign in a group with Stud and Camberlot, with Camberlot being our first opponents.

We got off to a poor start, conceding a first minute! They went on to convert and we were left 7-0 down. However, we fought back and with strong runs and good teamwork we passed the ball along the line to put Eito Osuga in the corner for the first Dorms try of our day.

Unfortunately, we lost our first game 7-5 as the try was not converted.

Forgetting about our early loss, we remained up-tempo and went on to play Stud.

We worked well as a team and kept hold of the ball for many phases until I found a gap and went over to score the first try, converting this to make the score 7-0.

Continuing to play well and stringing together some good phase play, Tom Davies gathered the ball and crashed through the Stud defense to make the score 12-0. We converted again, to make the score 14-0.

From there Stud came back strong, carrying the ball well and scoring a well-deserved try to make the score 14-5.

We held onto our lead until the final whistle!

With Stud beating a very confident Camberlot side 7-5, we went through to the final on points difference.

In the final we faced a very strong Deis side, who hadn't yet lost a game in their group. We were not threatened by their strong performance and took the game to them.

From the kick off, I gathered the ball and took on the Deis defense, running down the wing to score the first try of the final. We converted this to take a lead of 7-0.

Again we continuing to play strongly, and after a strong run from Guy Owers up to the Deis 5 meter line I picked the ball from the base of the ruck and crashed over under the posts.

Again, we converted the try to make the score 14-0.

Unfortunately we got too comfortable with our lead and let two tries through in quick succession, although Deis couldn't convert these.

The score was at 14-10 with 1 minute to play!

Despite Deis' efforts to score again, our defense held strong and we held on to secure the win.

Really well done to all of the boys that played - especially Florin, who had never played Rugby before!
