Dicker House pupil and talented cricketer Elliot Hooper was presented with the Hastings Observer's Outstanding Young Person of the Month Award last week for his volunteering and excellence on the cricket pitch.

The 17-year-old, who lives in Hastings, plays for Hastings and St Leonards Priory Cricket Club and is an Under 17 member of the well-established Sussex League Premier side. His skills have contributed to the team winning the Sussex T20 competition and achieving a good position in the Sussex Premier Cricket League.

The talented sportsman has also gone on to play for the Sussex Academy XI and The Sussex Cricket Board.

Elliot was nominated by Judy Perkins, Hon. Secretary at the cricket club, who said: "Elliot is a valued member of the team and club, and popular with players and spectators both on and off the field."

The Outstanding Young Person of the Month award is sponsored by Spectrum Financial Services and the Hastings Observer Series.

Every month, the award recognises someone aged 18 and under who has either excelled in sport, exceeded expectations in their academic studies, or has performed an important role on a voluntary basis in either their own home or the wider community.

Elliot will now receive a complimentary meal for two and £100 will be donated to the cricket club.

Geoff Fillery, Director of Operations at Spectrum, said: "Elliot's clearly passionate about cricket and he's an asset to the sport. I was delighted to present him with the Outstanding Young Person of the Month Award and will look forward to following his progress in the future."
