Music: Evensong at Chichester Cathedral

Music: Evensong at Chichester Cathedral

Always one of the highlights of the Bede's musical year, 2014s Evensong at Chichester Cathedral was no exception.

This year also marked an exciting collaboration with Bede's trust partners, Ratton School in Eastbourne.

We welcomed Katy Wood, Ratton's Head of Music, and members of the Ratton chamber choir who came and rehearsed on every Monday evening from January with the Bede's chamber choir.

Led by Director of Music Louise Morris, and accompanied at the organ by Deputy Director of Music, Robert Scamardella, the combined choirs sang the Evening Service in B flat by John Stainer and Charles Woods' glorious setting of O Thou the Central Orb as anthem.

The sheer dynamic range and nuance of the choral singing was remarked upon by all present: it was a great occasion.

A number of dedicated parents joined us for what was a wonderful afternoon of rehearsals and singing.

The glorious acoustics of the cathedral did justice to the Bede's and Ratton singers;  students left incredibly uplifted by the music, setting and atmosphere.
