Sixth Form pupils at Bede's achieved the School's best ever A Level grades today with 72% of results graded at A*-B, almost half of all grades at A* or A.

This marks yet another year of record-breaking results for the School which has seen significant improvements in Sixth Form attainment over the last five years. Indeed, with 20% of all grades at Bede's being A* this year, Bede's record-breaking achievement is all the more laudable - especially in the light of the national picture.

With notable successes in Languages, Sciences and the Humanities, 91% of all grades at Bede's were A*-C this year. Particularly successful departments included the Bede's Art School where 97% of pupils achieved A*-B grades and the English department where 85% of pupils achieved A*-B grade equivalents in the rigorous Cambridge Pre-U Literature course.

"This year, 450 qualifications were taken by the Bede's Upper Sixth," said Bede's Academic Deputy Head John Tuson. "To see an A or A* on virtually 50% of those certificates is an extraordinary achievement, particularly as Bede's continues to refuse to top-slice its intake."

Amongst the most triumphant pupils were James Baldwin from Stone Cross who achieved straight A* grades in Maths, Physics and History and who will now head to St Andrews to study Physics, Jess Bass from Heathfield who also achieved straight A* grades in English, History and Politics and will now head to Durham to study English and Kalea Cheng from Hong Kong who earned straight A* grades in Art, Ceramics and Photography and who will now study Art at Central St Martin's.

Elsewhere, Florin Gheorghiu, Bede's first HMC Scholar, achieved an A* in Maths and straight A grades in German, Psychology and Physics, Sammy Oyemade from Nigeria achieved straight A grades in Chemistry, Maths, Physics and Economics, and England U19 and Sussex cricketer Fynn Hudson-Prentice achieved the equivalent of one A and one A* in his Sport BTEC.

Bede's Headmaster Dr Richard Maloney said of the grades, "What is so delightful about this year's record-breaking results is that they are a product of an extraordinary level of combined effort from our Sixth Formers, their teachers and Bede's hugely supportive parental body. They go to show that our unique combination of academic rigour and holistic education really does deliver excellent results."
