Bloomsbury: About Our House Charity
This year, Bloomsbury House has chosen to support Chestnut Tree House as their House Charity.
The charity helps to care for 300 children and young adults from infancy to 19 years of age who have progressive, life-limiting conditions.
It is the only hospice based in both East and West Sussex where there are potentially 1,000 families who have life-limited children, with Chestnut Tree House offering constant support to not only the children but their whole families too.
This support includes psychological, bereavement and short break care support amongst a huge number of other efforts, all of which look to ensure that the families never feel alone.
It is not easy for Chestnut Tree House to keep their doors open. In fact, each year it costs Chestnut Tree House £3,000,000 to provide all the care services it does, and less than 8p in every pound of that sum comes from the government. Furthermore, Chestnut Tree House never charges families for their care.
Chestnut Tree House relies heavily on the support of the people of Sussex in terms of both physical assistance and financial generosity. Without local people, Chestnut Tree House simply could not do what they do.
The services that Chestnut Tree House offers ensure the best quality of life for children, young adults and their families. This is achieved via a 24 hour advice service and continuous support for each family during every stage of their care.
However short a child's life might be, Chestnut Tree House strives to support the child and their family and makes it their goal to ensure that the children live within a comfortable environment. Chestnut Tree House becomes personal to each family, with the staff taking on board what both the family and their child's feelings are.
They value the children, and as a result of this the staff build a close relationships with families and earn their trust during some of the most difficult times of their lives.
This year, Bloomsbury House will organise and take part in numerous fundraising events, such as a Casino night and Quiz Night in order to raise money for this incredibly worthy charity, all in an effort to help to make the lives of both the children at Chestnut Tree House and their families as comfortable as possible.
