Football: Bede’s Pre-Season Training Heralds 3-1 Victory
22 players attended this year's Pre-Season Training, which started on Tuesday 26th August.
The annual scheme, which is focussed on developing potential 1st XI footballers, this year began with fitness testing sessions with Bede's two Strength and Conditioning coaches.
Data was gained from these session which has formed the baseline for the season.
The squad was next put through a variety of ball work practices focussing on individual techniques, led by 1st XI coach Mr Leggett.
Wednesday last week then saw the players move onto sessions involving patterns of play and shape work before finishing with a trial match.
On Saturday Bede's then travelled to Chigwell School for a pre-season friendly. The game was split into four 20 minutes quarters and Bede's started very brightly, scoring at the end of the first quarter thanks to an excellent pass from Knory Scott and a great control and finish from Jacob Greene.
With the regular substitutions and muggy conditions, Bede's allowed their tempo to drop and were not as effective in the 2nd and 3rd quarters; although Sebastian Dos Merino scored, Bede's conceded a sloppy goal from a set piece.
Bede's finished strongly and, in the last quarter, Jacob Merrick scored a fantastic individual goal rounding 4 Chigwell players before sliding the ball home to complete the 3-1 victory for Bede's.
On this year's pre-season Bede's Head of Football Mr Caryer said "I have been very impressed with boys during this year's Pre-Season. They have listened well and taken on board the messages given."
He continued, "To have 22 players showing so much potential and enthusiasm this week has been excellent and has certainly left Mr Leggett and I with some very difficult decisions to make when it comes to naming our final 16 players for this season's squad."
