Drama: Daisy Reports on Starring in The Rattonians ‘Grease’
This October half term Alice Potter, Lily Potter and I celebrated local theatrical company, The Rattonians' 30th year anniversary by performing 'Grease' at Eastbourne's congress theatre.
Alice and I were lucky enough to be starring as Pink Ladies, Marty (Alice) and Jan (Daisy) and Lily was in the chorus.
The popular show included favourites such as 'Summer Nights', 'You're The One That I Want', 'We Go Together' and many more!
The three of us have performed with the company for a number of years and musical theatre is something we are all very passionate about. Auditions for 'Grease' were held in August and our first rehearsal was in September from which we had six weeks to prepare for this classic musical, not an easy task but a very full on and enjoyable one!
Rehearsals were held every Monday, Thursday and Sunday focusing on singing, acting and dancing, everything needed to be spot on by the time we got into the theatre.
We did our first two full rehearsals at the theatre on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th of October, combining lighting, set, costume, make up and live music for the first time.
By the Wednesday evening it was opening night, all three of us and the cast of 49 others were both nervous and excited to reveal what all of our hard work had been going into over the previous six weeks!
To our relief, opening night was a success and so was the rest of the week! Audiences were never smaller than 500 people for each of the six performances, with the final performance on Saturday night seating over 760!
We had some very positive reviews from the newspapers and the audience reaction was overwhelming. We were supported by various teachers from Bede's and a number of pupils whom I would like to thank on behalf of Alice, Lily and I.
We are very lucky as a company to not only have such a friendly and talented cast but a fantastic back stage crew which also included Alice and Lily's parents Nick and Rachel - lots of Bede's representatives were involved in the show!
We all had so much fun and, although we are missing it now, it will be onwards and upwards in the new year in preparation for our next show, The Addams Family, which will play at the Congress Theatre from 1st-4th of April 2015. Don't miss it!
