Bede's Tennis Stars Climb The Rankings

Bede's pupils Elise van Heuvelen, Kai Maxted, Ethan Parker and Henry Hughes enjoyed a number of successes over half term.

Elise Van Heuvelen picked up her first professional WTA point and cheque this weekend playing in the qualifying for a $50,000 event.

She will need 3 points to appear on the WTA computer ranking list but a great and exciting start and incentive I hope.

She not only practiced with a former top 20 player but was also praised by former Wimbledon champion Peter McNamara who said she had "the best backhand I've seen for a long while"

Elise beat Kwan Yau NG (HKG) 1-6,7-5,7-6 having been 6-1,5-3 down and also saving match point in the third set. She then lost to the current World Number 355 Elana Bogdan from Romania.

Elsewhere, Kai Maxted lost in the final of a Men's event at Seaford last week by beating Rob White for the first time in his career. Rob is ranked much higher and 3 years older than Kai.

Ethan Parker came 3rd in the same event, both players gaining invaluable experience against older and higher ranked opponents.

At the same event Henry Hughes won the U14 event and lost in the final of the U16 competition, so it was a great week for him also!
