Dorter House boarder Amira Davidson embarked on a gruelling, televised, 474-mile charity rickshaw ride in support of her poorly sister on Friday, and with her cycle to last all week the Bede’s community is offering her all the support it can muster.

Amira, who is aged 17 and joined Bede's Prep School in Year 7, is pedalling from Land's End to the East End of London to raise funds for BBC Children in Need inspired by sister her Elle-Mae, who suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2013.

Amira was nominated to take part in this event by her sister’s nurses for her “amazing strength and support for her family over the past few years,” and as a result of her involvement with The Children's Trust.

In recent years, Amira has involved herself in many of The Children’s Trust's activities with her sister and has learned, through the Trust’s support, how to come to terms with her sibling's condition and to find ways to help to care for her.

Amira and five other young riders are now taking part in the eight-day challenge with One Show presenter Matt Baker cycling alongside them.

The group’s journey will finish on Friday 13th at the BBC studios on Children In Need night, but this Wednesday Amira will pass close by when the team stops off at Brighton pier live on The One Show – set a reminder to tune into BBC 1 at 7pm!

Amira said before she left, "I know it will be a challenge, especially as we're facing some really long days in terms of mileage, but I'm really looking forward to getting underway.

"Through funding The Children's Trust, BBC Children In Need has had such a big impact, both on me and Elle, so I'm looking forward to giving something back.

"It's for a brilliant cause, so I really hope people will support this year's challenge. Their donations will keep me pedalling on."

Dorter Housemaster David Leggett said, “We in Dorter are coordinating any fundraising that members of the Bede’s community would like to be a part of, and we think it would be great if everyone got behind Amira and sponsored her for this amazing challenge.

“At the end of the event, it would be brilliant if we could let Amira have a cheque for what we have raised at Bede’s and, to this end, if you would like to sponsor Amira please contact me via email on david.leggett@bedes.org.”
