Football: Bede’s Alumnus Solly Contributes to England U21 Victory

Congratulations to Bede’s alumnus and England U21 forward Solly March who enjoyed a starring role in a 3-1 win over Switzerland at the Amex stadium on Monday.

Solly was making his first start for England U21 after showing promising form for Brighton early in the season, including by scoring a stunning goal for Albion in their win over MK Dons at the weekend.

Coming close to breaking the 0-0 deadlock in the eighth minute of the European Championship qualifier with a curling, left-footed effort from the edge of the area, Solly and his teammates were unfortunate to go into the break 1–0 down in what was a tight game.

Thankfully, three late goals secured all three points for the home side and they are now at the top of their group.

Bede’s 1st XI coach David Leggett said of Solly, “He has been pushing hard for a starting berth in the England U21 set up and he really proved his worth on Monday night. It is great to see him back on top form.”

Solly, who was keen to showcase Brighton’s new training facility to the England squad before the match, said, "I think everyone will be really impressed with Brighton. We have some top facilities for England U21s to use in preparation for the game."

Solly, 21, has been a regular for Brighton and Hove Albion this term and, with the Seagulls unbeaten and among the leading pack in the Championship, everyone at Bede’s is watching his progress keenly.
