Bede’s Sixth Form Achieves Best-Ever Grades
Sixth Form students at Bede’s Senior School have once again broken school records with 25% of all grades at A*, 53% at A*-A and 78% at A*-B.
These successes build on Bede’s ranking for two successive years in the top 1% of schools in the UK for Value Added, with 60% of all grades at A or A* in a startling 17 subjects including English, Maths, Music, Computing and Sport.
Most notably, pupils at Bede’s Art School earned 100% A*-B grades for the sixth consecutive year, with 67% of all grades at A*, while every single graduate from the Legat School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance achieved the equivalent of straight A* grades in their vocational dance qualifications.
With 100% A*-B grades in Economics, Philosophy and Ethics, and Latin, 86% A*-B grades in Chemistry and 82% A*-B grades in Design Technology, Bede’s departments achieved top grades in a diverse array of areas including over 75% A*-B grades in Media Studies, Further Maths, Geography and Theatre Studies.
Individual high-achieving pupils included Nadia Gjerdingen and Ben Laws, both of whom earned straight A*s in Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, Joshua Simonassi, who earned straight A*s in History, Spanish and English Literature, and Jack Rickard, who earned A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Physics with an additional A in Computing.
Straight A*-A grades were also earned by a substantial number of pupils including Bede’s Head of School for the year Bertie Cook and the trio of Alice Potter, Joe Robson and Harvey Cole, three of the year group’s brightest performers and lead players in Bede’s production of Into The Woods at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park Theatre last February.
John Tuson, Bede’s Academic Deputy Head, said of these accomplishments, “It is extremely gratifying that so many of the pupils who have achieved at the highest levels academically are also those who have contributed most to the life of our School. Indeed, for well in excess of half of all grades to be at A or A* is quite remarkable, particularly in light of Bede’s continued determination to not top-slice its intake.”
Outgoing Headmaster Dr Richard Maloney added, “My final cohort at Bede’s have exceeded all ours and their expectations and I am delighted to be leaving Bede’s on a high note.
"I have seen this wonderful group of young people achieve so much inside and outside the classroom and to have that success underscored by such excellent exam results is wonderfully affirming. Once again, Bede’s commitment to academic excellence, whilst valuing every individual within a holistic educational environment, has borne great dividends for our pupils.”
