Stud: 'Dicker Derby' Helps Raise £2,000 For ABC Fund
On Friday 24 February, the boys of Stud House hosted our inaugural ‘Upper Dicker Derby Night’ – a thoroughly enjoyable evening of informative talks and ‘funny money’ betting attended by parents, boys and staff, all of whom got into the race night spirit!
The evening started with a presentation by Ann Bickmore, founder of the ABC Fund, who described the evolution of the charity from its early years in the 1990s.
Anne explained that the aim of the fund is to offer enjoyable opportunities to children, young people and their carers, particularly those with disabilities or special needs, and in doing so to put a smile on the faces of families who live with illness and disabilities day in and day out, year in and year out.
After Anne’s speech, three horse races were then shown on the House’s big screen, followed by two greyhound races and, finally – the highlight: a pig race.
The blind raffle went down extremely well and many of the boys and parents won multiple prizes.
The biggest winner of the evening was Nikita Egoian, who managed to amass a whopping £1200 of ‘funny money’ by ‘going big or going home’ (his own words, not mine).
The evening raised a creditable £450 and, along with the Cheese and Wine evening, the Stud House Party and Sponsored Silences and Hairshaves, our total for the ABC Fund stands at over £2,000 and counting.
Definitely an evening that will be on the calendar again next year!
