Duke of Edinburgh: An Unexpected Party

The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh team were thrown in at the deep end with an overnight expedition to Bushy Wood on Friday 22 September.

40 students from Lower Fifth set off on their intrepid journey in small groups, navigating the local footpaths, carrying small packs with overnight kit.

Students entered the Scout Camp Friday evening, accompanied by experienced staff members overseeing team progress, to be welcomed by Miss Wainwright’s amazing BBQ expertise. Students proceeded to learn how to set-up camp, managing to suitably pitch tents and lay guy lines safely, before sampling Miss French’s campfire smoores.

After a clear, star-lit night the students woke fairly groggily having talked long into the evening before trekking homeward-bound. This was the first challenge following the start of the largest Bronze Duke of Edinburgh ever seen at Bedes.
