House Competitions: Bede's 'Amazing Race'

15

Tuesday 5 September saw this year’s schedule of House Cup Competitions launched with ‘Bede’s Amazing Race’.

The whole school assembled in the MPH for an afternoon of hotly-contested mini games, from obstacle courses to welly wanging

The Amazing Race was conceived by Co-Curricular Deputy Head Ms Woollett as a new whole-school House Competition last year, and as a result of its success it has become a firm favourite.

It is not only as a means of having fun and getting to know members of your House, but also as a way of familiarising every Bedian with the School’s campus, facilities and overall layout.

Each of the ten Houses produced ten teams, each of mixed ages and abilities to promote team building within the Houses. Ten challenge stations were then staged around the School’s campus and the ‘Amazing Race’ took for the form of a staggered relay.

Challenges included an inflatable assault course in the MPH, welly wanging at the Cricket Pavilion, obstacle courses on Stud Field, pictionary in Stud Yard and charades in the Miles Studio Theatre.

Ms Woollett said of the afternoon, “Our aims of the day were for everyone to get to know our new pupils, for our new pupils to get to know their way around campus, and for everyone to embrace house spirit.”

The inflatable assault course was jointly won by Crossways and Deis and Welly Wanging was jointly won by Dorter and Dorms with Adelaide Barden the top welly wanging girl and Jack Dunkerly the top welly wanging boy.

Knights won the obstacle course, Deis the pictionary. Bloomsbury have the best smelling skills and know their literature the best. Crossways know the most people around school and Camberlot are the champions at charades. Meanwhile, Dorms proved to be the masters of Sudoku.

Monday then saw the results announced in assembly by Mr Goodyer. In 10th place was Dorter, with Stud, Dorms, Camberlot, Knights, Crossways and Charleston in 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th and 4th respectively.

Bloomsbury came 3rd starting their position on the House Cup leader board slightly lower than last year after winning Amazing Race in 2016.

2nd place was award to Dicker, meaning Deis managed to secure first place and sit at the top of the House Cup leader board, at least for now!

House Music is next on the agenda with yet more House Points up for grabs, so all is still to play for!
