MFL: First Year Pupils Create Outdoor Pursuits Trip Posters

All First Year pupils went on the Outdoor Pursuits trip in the Peak District just before October Half Term.

It was such an amazing experience, that my First Year French set decided to write about it in French.

As well as learning about the trip’s vocabulary (le canoe, la randonnée nocturne, l'escalade sur rochers, etc), the pupils have also managed to get a good grasp of the perfect tense together with some important life lessons - such as la patience, le respect, l'esprit d'equipe (patience, respect, team spirit).

They all expressed what they did and achieved on the trip in the French language, and designed their own French posters.

Here are a few good examples:

“J'ai depassé mes peurs; c'était gratifiant!” (“I have overcome my fears, it was rewarding!”)

“Je suis sorti de ma zone de confort; c'était difficile mais sensationnel!” (“I have come out of my comfort zone, it was difficult but sensational!”)

“J'ai admiré la beauté de la nature; c'était reposant!” (“I have admired the beauty of Nature, it was relaxing!”)

I have never seen First Year pupils so enthusiastic about French language! It was one of the best ways I could think of to engage the pupils positively and creatively. They all related to the experience and wanted to express their feelings.
