House Competitions Hot Up With Cake Decorating Challenge
The last house competition of the year saw the hotly contested Christmas cake decorating challenge set to the Houses.
With a useful 10 points at stake, and the chance to end 2017 in the lead of the House competition board, each community sent in their best duo to decorate the blank sponge.
In front of Mrs Pook and Ms Butler, the pairs got to work straight away on arrival in the Dining Room, as a tight thirty minute window had been allocated.
The teams, who were provided with a Victoria sponge, cake board, butter cream, fondant icing and a rolling pin, and were able to bring in further decorations to add to the display.
After the time was up, all that could be done was to wait for the judging!
Mr and Mrs Goodyer, and Mrs Robinson-Reid, were faced with this task and decided the winners:
Overall winner – Knights House – a stunning two tiered cake with sugar igloo, jelly pond and loads of imagination!
Joint second and winners of the technical prize were Charleston and Blooms with both houses showing detailed icing work and meticulous planning.
Fourth, and highly commended was Dorter, with an wonderful design featuring lots of gingerbread houses
Fifth, and winning the award for the ‘most fun’ was Dorms, with a rather tinselly and squashed Santa!
Fifth place went to Stud with a cheerful snowman and sugar canes
Sixth place went to Crossways fabulous nativity scene
Seventh place, with a special mention for trying exceptionally hard, was Camberlot.
Mrs Goodyer said ‘Once again the Houses have risen to the challenge. The festive cakes were all completely different and showed wonderful enthusiasm and flair. I am very much looking forward to the next competition and seeing what the Houses manage next!’
