Bede's Swimmers Head To The British Swimming Championships
Bede’s School pupils Sam Avery and James Grimmond, both aged 17 and from Eastbourne, have qualified for the British Swimming Championships that will take place from 1-4 March at the Edinburgh International Pool in Scotland.
James has qualified in the 50m and 100m freestyle, with Sam qualifying for the 50m backstroke. Both boys are on great form following fantastic results at the Sussex County Championships, which saw Sam crowned double Sussex County Champion in both the 50m and 100m backstroke.
Sam, who is in the Upper Sixth at Bede’s said “To have the opportunity to represent Bede’s alongside some of the best swimmers in the country will be an amazing experience.” Sam is currently studying Maths, Chemistry and Biology at A Level and is heading to Loughborough University in October to study Human Biology.
James, who is also in the Upper Sixth, and is currently studying Maths, Physics and Art, and plans to study Architecture at UCL in October said “To qualify for the British Swimming Championships has always been an ambition of mine, having never previously reached national level. I cannot wait to compete and I hope to do Bede’s proud.”
Head of Swimming at Bede’s, Craig Steenhoff, said ‘It is a fantastic achievement for both James and Sam to have qualified for this event, which will see them swim alongside English and Scottish Commonwealth qualified swimmers as well as top international swimmers from across Europe. We wish them the best of luck and I am sure they enjoy this amazing experience.’
