Maths: Bede's Win Second Place in Tough UKMT Regionals

On a rainy day in December, our Senior Maths team braved the elements and headed out to prove their mettle against the rest of the South East in the UKMT Senior Challenge.

This is no easy task - the South East is well known as the most challenging of the Regional rounds, and the competition was going to be tough.

Ably captained by Thomas Poole, the team of Sam Leonard, Francesca Plaskett and Elaine Boyer has been in training for several weeks. We sadly had to compete without Jan Apolin owing to a clash with his Cambridge interview.

Months of training goes into preparing for the competition, and we’re delighted that the team finished second against some extremely strong competition.

It was a close run result, with only a few marks in it. Thomas Poole, Team Captain, says, "I’m delighted to have captained such a strong team - they all gave their absolute best. This is a fantastic result and we’re only a bit disappointed we didn’t win the whole thing. Next year’s team is going to be even stronger."
