Creative Writing Talents Showcased in New 'Small Island' Journal

We’re delighted to announce that the latest edition of Small Island, our journal of new creative writing, is now available.

Featuring stunning images from Bede’s art students, and a striking cover from former U6th Dicker Boy James Grimmond, it shines a light on the latest work from a new crop of Bede’s writing talent, including: Max Mason, Amber Giles, Eliane Boyer, Ellie Bostock-Smith, George Linehan, Thea Adams, Isadora Fenton, Elisa Conlan and Grace Stannard.  There is also superb photography, courtesy of Theo Silk and Millie Doxey.

Audiences for our recent ‘A Life in Writing’ with William Nicholson had the first look at the new edition. “I’m really pleased to see such a broad range of work”, says Head of English, Mr Oliver, “we have everything from fantasy and war narratives to dramatic monologues. There’s even a piece bringing together Soviet Russia and table tennis. It’s brilliant”.

Students will be able to see Small Island in the library and hear the writers on Mr Vaux’s upcoming Small Island podcasts. The publication will be available to parents, and will also be available at this year’s Charleston House Literary Festival in May. It will be excellent for all young writers to see their work travel well beyond the School.
